My Pathetic Pear 6"X6" Oil on Panel

I thought this pear was looking up at me from the cutting board, where I had left it the night before. I imagined it was trying to convey something to me as I saw this pathetic little bird like face and I felt compelled to give it more life. I’m thinking this pear challenge this month must also be getting to me, how many pears can one paint? Well, I’m not really that prolific a painter, so nothing really there to worry about, really!

Another greener pear on the same block of cedar wood from yesterdays painting. I really liked the shadow cast by this particular pear I thought it looked like a bird silhouette not a pear at all. Since earlier in the day I was out photographic birds it caught my imagination.

I’m having trouble keeping up with the ripening pears. I’ll have to get painting faster. This pear is sitting on a block of cedar that was used for a large live edge tabletop, this section appeared to have been crushed and possibly the tree had fallen on something.

Another green pear maturing too quickly. I’ve been enjoying different ways to eat pears, as these Bartlett pear ripen up very fast.

This is my third pear study this week and this is the one that took the most time. I tried a limited palette range on this one, part of the challenge but I didn’t like this particular set of colors. I do think that I’m managed to get the colors matched fairly well though and as I didn’t take a photo of the setup I’ll never know. Already the pear has turned to a yellow pear. This is not as distracting a change as being outdoors painting with the changing light but my shadowbox isn’t the best setup yet.

Pear Study #2 6"X6" Oil on Panel

This is the same pear now ripened as the green pear study previously posted and today it will get eaten also. I built a cardboard shadowbox as the days have been dark and grey and I’m needing to work with lights on. I’ve decided to set up a proper shadowbox next week and am collecting the materials to build it for when my new stand comes in also. It will be great to finally have mobility for my setups.

Happy New Years! I’ve been working and painting but forgot to post, but hope to get back on track regularly here again. I was working on a couple of commissions, this was the first of two I needed to do before Xmas.
